The world of online shopping has evolved and selling goods via online market places like Gumtree , eBay and the ever-growing Facebook Groups has become the norm.
However, if you are selling goods – proceed with caution. The latest scam we are seeing uses fraudulent payment transfer receipts.

Today’s technology makes it all too easy for fraudsters to create fake payment receipts. We have seen a spike in this behaviour in recent months. A scam buyer sends a ‘transfer payment receipt’ which the seller thinks is legitimate and releases the goods. However it is not until days later they realise the payment has not been sent.
If you are selling goods, we recommend you do not post goods until the funds are received in your bank account.
The speed of payments has increased recently with the launch of a new payment system called ‘Osko by BPAY’^{^}. This enables you to have funds transferred into your account within a minute on weekdays, weekends and even public holidays.
Alternatively, if your financial institution does not offer Osko by BPAY, you can use a trusted payment system like PayPal.
Selling goods online is a great way to make extra money, just don’t fall victim to fraudsters or it could end up costing you.
