There is a variety of ways online attackers may attempt to gain your personal or financial information, or exploit you for financial gain by pretending to be from Australia Post.

Some scams are extremely hard to determine, with SMS and email scams being almost identical to the real thing.

It may be an SMS or email message asking you to verify your address, or asking you to pay unpaid shipping costs (or other charges), it could even be a fake survey from Australia Post designed to steal your personal and financial information.

It is important to remember that Australia Post will never:

  • Ask you to click on an email link to print off a label to redeem your package
  • Email or call you to ask for personal or financial information including password, credit card details or account information
  • Call or email you out of the blue to request payment

If you receive a suspicious SMS or email, please:

  • Delete them immediately
  • Do not click on any links or attachments (they may harbor virus's or malicious software that will infect your device)
  • Report to SCAMwatch or Stay Smart Online

If you have been the victim of a scam, contact your bank as soon as possible, as well as the entity on which you were scammed to inform them of the circumstances.
